Why Everything Youve Been Doing to Discover Your Dream Biz is Wrong - When I Grow Up
Why Everything Youve Been Doing to Discover Your Dream Biz is Wrong - When I Grow Up Procrastinating. One of the human animalâs greatest pastimes. When there are big, pressing obstacles ahead of us that also carry a substantial amount of importance (like your career, for example) it can be easy to get bogged down doing fake things that are disguised as progress. In reality, theyâre just black holes made out of procrastination and confusion there to suck you in and keep your from making real moves towards your dream gig. When considering a career change to become an entrepreneur, there are MANY black holes out there dressed up like fancy answers and solutions tricking you into thinking wealth, happiness, and an early retirement plan are right around the corner. Iâm going to try to help you identify them now so you donât waste any more time, money, or energy on things that WONâT help you discover your dream business. Hereâs why everything youâve been doing to crack your biz open is actually wrong. Take a deep breath, and let this shizz go. Taking Myers-Briggs tests or searching personality/strength quizzes online: I get it. The internet is full of promises. Shiny titles like âTake This Quiz Weâll Show You Your Dream Job!â are attractive, and wouldnât it be nice if thatâs how things worked? A good rule of thumb is to never trust a robot to do your soulâs job, like deciding what is a meaningful way to make a living. This kind of formulaic approach to something as important as *what you want to do with your life* is a shallow pond to swim in, and your business should be a deep, delicious ocean of possibility. Plus, if a quiz did spit out some sort of specific job answer, would you believe it? Would you set aside the time, resources, energy, and finances to follow it? Would you tell your friends, âHey guys, Iâm quitting my day job to pursue a career this quiz told me Iâd be good at?â Probably not, because an internet algorithm is not your gut, heart, brain or dream. Asking your loved ones to weigh in: Trust me, I know they mean well. People who are close to you will certainly want whatâs best for you, which also means they are biased. Sigh. They canât help it. Your loved ones are going to subconsciously (or maybe even very intentionally) steer you towards what feels safe and comfortable in their minds. Theyâre also limited by their own lens of what they think youâre good at, and donât have the true capacity to know what you want to do or see your dream business in their mindâs eye like you can. This might mean the conversations you have with them feel productive, but when you walk away youâre actually more confused and unclear on what you wanted to do than before. It can also lead to cyclical conversations and thought patterns, too, which are the enemy of forward movement and action. The truth is, your people canât actually know what your personal risk/reward bar is. They canât know what gives you energy and motivates you to do better on an internal level. They canât imagine a dream job that encompasses all of your passions, even the ones that seem like they donât go together, better than you can. Really, honestly, seriously⦠only you can know those things. Which leads me to Trying to pick just one thing to do: Life is big and long and rich and winding why put yourself into one lane, or box, or other small thing that doesnât sound very nice? When youâre multipassionate, you need multiple things to fill you up. This means picking an umbrella business. An umbrella business is both niche, yet broad. It is streamlined and purposeful on the outside (like an umbrella!) but gives you space to be expansive on the inside. I also call this an âAndâ business. Itâs a way of combining your multipassions rather than having to pick âthis OR that.â Letâs use me as an example. I describe myself and role as The When I Grow Up Coach like this: âIm a business coach for creative women who want to discover, launch and/or build their dream business.â To the outside world, my business is focused and streamlined as a business coach. However, behind the curtain, I have a chance to stretch my multipassionate self into other areas like writing, public speaking, brainstorming, marketing, and creative thinking. My overall umbrella business â" helping creative women believe they can make a grown up living with a business that they love â" allows my biz to be expansive without making me look flaky or feel scattered.. Telling yourself too many other people are already doing what you (might) want to do: Look if there are other people out there successfully offering what you want to offer â" so successfully in fact, you feel there wonât be any clients left over for you â" then that means thereâs a need/want for it. Also, hereâs a little secret business coach nugget of wisdom: only you can offer your products or services the way you do/make them. Thatâs what makes you special!, different!, stand out!, and attract the clients that are right for YOU and avoid the clients that are right for someone else. I can help you uncover what makes your multi-passionate self shine, and then harness those amazeballs qualities into a business that makes money. (Seriously. Itâs, like, my whole thing.) Tomorrow, the early bird special closes for my Discover Your Dream Business program and I donât want you to miss out. Together, we can break these negative habits that are getting in the way of finding your actual dream business, and get you on the productivity train headed straight for biz-bliss. Click here to stop the cycle. No more tests. No more winding conversations. No more guessing games. Just action.

Writing the Professional Summary in a Resume - How to Write the Professional Summary in a Resume For Different SectionsSo, you've written the professional summary in a resume. But you also have to know how to write the professional summary in a resume for different purposes of different sections of the resume. The first section of the resume is usually the summary. It is a summary of what your career is about. It does not indicate what are you, what type of job, what are your qualifications, what are your professional experiences, what are your skills and capabilities. The professional experience section should also be considered as a summary. This is for showing what kinds of skills you have and how long you have worked in your career. Of course, this must be supplemented with the other aspects. The next part of the resume is the job summary. Here you give the name of the position and the job title. You should include more details than just a job title. This part is always very importa nt in resumes, since it shows what the employer expects from you in terms of job.The information about skills and abilities, experience and education must also be included in the summary. 7 Steps to Finding Success If You Drop Out of College
7 Steps to Finding Success If You Drop Out of CollegeThink you cant be successful if you drop out of college? Think again. Some of the biggest companies in the world were started by entrepreneurs who never finished school. While there are skills and experiences and accomplishments that any aspiring successful person will acquire in college, if you happen not to have finished (or you find yourself having dropped out and spiraling in a fit of panic), remember that it isnt necessarily the end of the world. googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display(div-gpt-ad-1467144145037-0) ) Here are a few things you can do if you dropped out to get yourself back on a good track to success.1. Breathe.First take a deep breath and realize its your life. You are in control. If this is what you need and you can still accomplish what you want to in life without this degree? Then great. Start making concrete plans and working towards that goal.2. Keep learning.Education doesnt necessarily end with sc hool. Neither should yours. Continue learning as voraciously as possiblefollowing what interests you most and what youd need to know to expand your career outside of school. Dont fall into ignorance or stagnation just because you needed to stop attending college.3. Keep taking risks.Dropping out to pursue other options is a big risk. If it pays off for you, continue thinking of other ways you can take calculated risks in pursuit of your destiny. Keep pushing for your dreams. Youve already shown you have the guts. Persist4. Find your real-life community.Just because you arent in college anymore doesnt mean you dont need professors and classmates. Find yourself mentors. Present yourself to people in your desired fieldand show your willingness to learn. Youll probably get a good recommendation out of it at some stage in your career. Similarly, find your crew of like-minded, similarly-oriented people who you can build your empire (or at least a business) with. Learn from each other and promote each others work.5. Dont ditch responsibilities.Whatever your new class equivalent isshow up for it. Dont blow things off just because you arent technically required to show up anymore. Push yourself and give yourself grades This is equally important for work. Get a job and show up at iton time and consistently.6. Dont be defensive. You cant have it both ways. If you didnt finish school, you cant very well complain that other people did and it makes you feel bad. Remember you chose your priorities and your life. It was your choice. Be honest about why and dont take any negativityfrom anyone if they react unfairly.7. Be humble.Be willing to work from the bottom up. Get in on the entry level of whatever field you most want to work in. Be willing to start low on the totem pole. With a little humility and dedication, you probably wont be down there long.

New Study Reveals Major Barrier to Male Allyship
New Study Reveals Major Barrier to Male Allyship In the wake of the MeToo movement, the ways in which gender dynamicsplay out in the workplace have garnered well-deserved and, frankly, long-awaitednational attention. And in response to the movement, a group of Hollywood elites signed an open letter asking men to take more responsibility for ridding workplaces of sexism and to be better allies to their female colleagues the letter ultimately launched the start of the AskMoreofHim movement, which highlights the role men play in preventing gender-based violence. But new research by Janine Bosakof Dublin City University suggeststhat when men do act as adcovates and allies, theyre faced with backlash both from other men and from other women. According to theresearch, men who stand upfor victims of sexism and sexual abuse (or anyone in the workplace other than themselves), essentially behaving contrary to the stereotypes with which theyre associated, are perceived as less likeable, less co mpetent and less suitable for certain jobs than men who carry on focused on themselves and their individualsuccess. The researchers looked at 149 professionals who participated in the online study that wasostensibly about perceptions and decision-making. Evenly divided by gender, they were tasked withexaminingapplication materials from male and female candidates who were described as either types who tend to advocate for themselves or types who tend to advocate for their teams. The self-advocating applicant was described asa fierce worker who diligently works for success and wants to receive credit where due and is excellent at promoting himself. The other-advocating applicant was described as a strong negotiator on behalf of this team and a fierce worker who diligently guides his team to success. The studys participants rated the candidates likeability, competence and how much theyd recommend the partie be let go if the company were to downsize. And, ultimately, male candidates who ad vocated for others got worse reviews by both the men and women alike in the study. The research therefore suggests that workplaces need to do a better job at creating a culture that promotes teamwork and that does not hold men and women to different standards or have different expectations of employeesbased on their gender. Workplaces need to work on rewarding teamwork and promoting allyship among coworkers. And to AskMoreofHim, men need to hold each other accountable because, the more men speak up, the more other men will, and the less backlash theyll face. Women do it for each other every day, even despite the consequences.--AnnaMarie Houlis is a multimedia journalist and an adventure aficionado with a keen cultural curiosity and an affinity for solo travel. How to Select the Right Resume Tool
How to Select the Right Resume Tool How to Select the Right Resume Tool There are a lot of tools available that promise to improve your resume. But when youre applying for jobs, time is at a premium. You cant spend time wading through every resume tool under the sun. Here, well talk about the major differences between resume tools so you can choose the one that works for yousimplify your resume writing once and for all.Resume BuilderResume builders help you compile your work history and experience into a resume. The best resume builders help you encapsulate and pitch your most persuasive self, and work with you to create the initial draft.A couple of our favorite resume builders are Rezi, an easy-to-use resume tool that helps you generate PDF-enabled resumes and CV Maker, which we like for its clean resume templates and capability to export resumes in PDF, HTML, and TXT file formats.Resume Grader or ReviewerA resume grader reviews your resume, and then, like the name implies, gives y ou a letter grade (A-F, just like in school) based on a number of factors that make resumes appealing to hiring managers.RezScore, a resume builder, grades your resume based on its brevity, impact, and depth. While RezScore offers some advice, it doesnt offer any specific method for improving your resume, likely leaving you without a way to actually correct issues. As an alternative, a resume reviewer lets you know how effective your resume is in a number of categories, including content, style, and length. The reviewer then offers advice about how to make your resume better. One example is Ladders Resume Reviewer. While this resume tool lets you know if youre using proper grammar and spelling, it offers only limited suggestions about how to make improvements. You might know whats wrong with your resume, but there is limited guidance as to how you should change it.Resume ScannerA resume abtaster combines the best aspects of a resume grader and resume reviewer into a single tool. Addit ionally, a scanner checks to see that the skills and keywords used in both the job description and your resume are the same. Many companies are using Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), or automated systems that scan resumes for a good match using the jobs desired keywords. A scanner ensures that your resume makes it through the ATS.Using an advanced algorithm, Jobscan checks to see that your resume keywords and the keywords on the job description match. Jobscan then provides more feedback than other, similar tools by suggesting keywords you should include in your resume to increase your match rate. Additionally, Jobscans free resume templates provide you with the best format for making your resume ATS-readable and attractive to hiring managers. Remember, the improvements recommended by resume tools, though beneficial, are not enough. Since recruiters conduct different keyword searches using words most relevant to each job, the best guarantee youll get noticed is by taking the time to tailor each resume with the most pertinent keywords.
